Animal Lover: Last year
Jackson Friends was instrumental in pushing the creation of a statewide
program that will help fund animal care programs in each county. Through
a special fee for a car tag with "I care for animals" printed
on it and an associated design, it was our hope the counties throughout
Mississippi could benefit from such a fund raising program. Information
about this program and the associated legislation is presented for your
review. We are very close to reaching the 100 applications required and
need your help to complete the formation of what can be a significant
funding program for your county. The program
is designed to have the State Tax Commission receive the fees and
forward them to the State Vet, who in turn is developing rules for the
distribution of the money to each county. Once the county receives the
funds any group or county department will be able to request funds for
acceptable programs, equipment or other needs. The success of the car
tag program depends on "selling" the idea to the public. This
will requires getting the word out so during car tag renewals, people
will choose a special "I care for animals" tag. Before we
can sell the idea of these special tags we need the first hundred
applications. Click the following to find a
form and simple instructions for applying for these initial car tags.
We encourage you to complete the form and sent in a check to Jackson
Friends, (note: check must be made to the State Tax Commission). Your
check will not be cashed until the program is under way. If you have any
questions about this program please call Keith Turner at 601-949-4864(work)
or 601-981-5954(home).
